Finnish Cultural Institute in New York

FCNY

The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York operates in the fields of contemporary art, design and architecture, creating dialogue between Finnish and American professionals and audiences.

The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York was founded in 1990 as a residency center by the associations of Finnish artists (STS), architects (SAFA) and designers (ORNAMO). Deriving from that legacy, the institute aims towards setting people and ideas in motion and creating international and interdisciplinary dialogue. Residencies and other mobility programs are an important tool in creating motion, as are exhibitions, events, other public programs.

The FCINY aims to be a flexible agent in the cross-Atlantic Finnish-American cultural exchange, recognizing timely critical ideas and debates in the visual fields. The FCINY collaborates with both local and overseas partners.

The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York is one of the 17 Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes around the world. It is a member of the EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) cluster in New York. In addition to an office in New York, the institute maintains an office in Helsinki, Finland. The FCINY is a not-for-profit private foundation with a 501(c)3 status. All donations made to the institute are tax deductible. The institute is supported by an annual endowment from the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland, and by various corporate and private sponsors and grants.
