Please send your complete mailing address to the Consulate General in New York or Los Angeles or from the Embassy of
Finland, Washington D.C. (see your jurisdiction) and ask for a
visa application to be sent to you or download the application form below.
The Schengen agreement allows you to obtain a visa that is valid in 24 European countries.
The Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia,
Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
A Schengen visa can be applied for at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of your MAIN
DESTINATION. If no country is your main destination, you should apply at the Embassy or
Consulate of the country of your FIRST DESTINATION.

U.S. citizens do not need a visa for stays not exceeding 90 days. The process takes approx. 2 weeks and cannot be
started until all the paperwork is submitted.
The following documents are required for a Schengen tourist visa to
Finland:
- Completed visa application (signed in front of a
visa officer or a notary public)
Before sending the form, please check that you have answered ALL
questions. Incomplete applications will not be processed!
- One passport size color photograph, white background.
The photos must follow the
Passport Photo Guidelines issued by the police in June 2005.
Size: 3,6 cm x 4,7 cm (1 3/8 inch x 1 7/8 inch), head: between 3,2 cm
and 3,6 cm (1 1/4 inch to 1 3/8 inch). Incorrect
pictures cannot be accepted.
- Valid passport or other travel document (must continue to be valid at least 3 months
after the visa expires)
- Notarized copy of your Resident Alien Card (Green Card)
OR a valid US visa in your passport. On request the applicant has to
send/show the original Resident Alien Card.
- Invitation letter (contact information of the host and visitor,
purpose and duration of the visit, confirmation of accomodation
including the address, signature and date) or hotel reservation.
- Proof of your airline reservation to and from Finland, such as an itinerary from a
travel agency, or proof of other travel arrangements.
- Proof of sufficient funds (e.g. bank statement)
- Valid visa for the country of your next destination (after Finland).
- Valid traveller's insurance, which is valid during the whole stay and in the whole Schengen territory.
The insurance must cover costs caused by sudden illness and accidents, including the transport home of the patient up to the amount of USD
50,000 and in case of death the costs for transport home of the
deceased OR medical insurance with the same coverage.
Coverage must be indicated in letter from insurance company, a copy of
the insurance card is not enough.
- For an applicant under 18 years old - not travelling with a parent, a notarized parental
authorization form.
- Embassy/Consulate may request additional documents or personal
interview.
- Visa fee and possibly a postal fee.

Please note that in order to qualify for a transit visa you must travel through
Finland on your way to a third country. We recommend that you process your application form
directly with us. If you use a visa service agency to obtain your visa, your signature in
the application must be notarized. The process takes approximately two weeks and cannot be
started until all paperwork is received.

that FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE if the visa application is withdrawn or the visa denied. The
fees are subject to change due to exchange rate fluctuations.
If you wish your passport to
be mailed back to you, please add payment for registered mail or for overnight
delivery by FedEx. You may also provide a prepaid,
self-addressed envelope.
