About Finland

 General information

Discover Finland!                      Live!

Many Americans know to search Finnish links for the midnight sun, modern architecture, saunas and reindeer.

They are often familiar with Nokia cell phones, the city of Helsinki and famous Finns such as Linus Torvalds, Teemu Selänne and Alvar Aalto.

Fewer people, though, know that Finland is a giant among international rankings:

  • Finland ranks as the second most competitive country in the world in 2006 according to the World Economic Forum.

  • According to the OECD, 15-year-old Finns have the best literary skills in the world.

  • For several consecutive years, Finland has been ranked the least corrupt country in the world.

  • Finland comes up number one when freedom of the press is measured.

In the 1990s, Finland’s knowledge-based economy and advancements in wireless technology were front-page news in the U.S. In the new millennium, however, Finnish culture has taken the front seat. Classical music, design, film and architecture currently enjoy a spotlight in U.S. media coverage.

Within the following pages, you will find something on all of the above and much, much more.

Enjoy your visit.
